Engineers and technicians in your region come together to meet, network and put on events through their local IMechE committees. Our volunteer committees are always looking for new members to join them, attend their activities and even help out in organising events. Find your local regional contact here Member networks near you. This fantastic video gives a flavour of their purpose and activities: Meet the Regions.
Jack Mason EngTech MIMechE and Vice Chair and Secretary of the Devon and Cornwall Area has been volunteering for four years and has just started working at Babcock at HMNB Devonport. Jack is keen to engage with defence engineers in the region, share ideas and arrange speakers and activities.
He said: “Joining an Area Committee is an incredibly fulfilling role, offering a unique platform to foster professional growth and support engineering within your local area. Collaborating with like-minded individuals you can actively shape local engineering communities through engaging events such as company tours, technical lectures, or supporting young people with career development. This opportunity allows you to support the industry, share knowledge, while enhancing your own professional development by broadening your network, and providing opportunities of insight into other areas of the industry.
IMechE Area committees welcome diverse involvement which does not have to be formal participation. Supporting your local committee can be as simple as supporting events, sharing insights, suggesting ideas, or even initiating events. Your contribution is appreciated and helps shape the volunteering network.”
Their next event is the hugely entertaining Cardboard Boat Race at Commercial Wharf, Plymouth on Saturday 16 September. You can see event details here or get in touch with the team on devcorncbrc@imechenearyou.org.
