IMechE Apprentice of the Year 2023 is a fantastic way to recognise an individual who goes above and beyond to support others as well as excel in their own work. Plus, there is a £1,000 prize. More information on the website - Apprentice of the Year.

IMechE EngTech of the Year 2023 celebrates great technical and other contribution to an employer as well as wider outreach. With thousands of EngTechs within the armed forces and MOD, there should be hot competition for this award. Plus it is worth £1,000. More information on the website - EngTech of the Year Award.

There is still time to book your place at this networking event dedicated to supporting you, our amazing volunteers. Join other current and potential volunteers from the armed forces and MOD plus your defence liaison team and find out more about how we can support you in your role.

Are you currently – or would you like to be - volunteering as an ILO (industry liaison officer) or a professional review interviewer? Do you sponsor and support people with their IMechE applications or do you volunteer with our regional or national committees?

Get the help you need from Support Network

The Support Network is the personal and practical support charity for members of IMechE and their families. Support Network has been going since 1913 and can provide finance and specialist advice as well as volunteering opportunities. Support Network.

Get more involved with IMechE

There are so many ways to get more involved with the Institution, to meet new people and support others throughout the profession. Here are just a few:

Become an interviewer
If you are already professionally registered as either IEng or CEng you can help others achieve the same goal by training as an Interviewer. Getting trained is easy – just a two and a half hour MS Teams training session. You can opt to observe a few interviews first or plunge straight in and join your first panel. Help us interview the next generation of professional engineers and contribute to your CPD.

Become an Industry Liaison Officer (ILO)
Volunteer to represent IMechE and to support and sponsor colleagues to become professionally registered. Find out more here Industry Liaison Officer. See who else is volunteering as an ILO Find an ILO.

Join a regional or area panel or a national committee
Use your passion for engineering to develop new connections and run events in your local area, or to support one of our national boards or committees.

Become a STEM Ambassador
You can also volunteer as a STEM ambassador – our last event was at RAF Benson on 17 June where there were 2,000 air cadets. Find out more about the free training on offer and the exciting things you can be part of STEM Ambassador.

Whether you are looking for a webinar for your own development, or wish to support your engineers and technicians as they work towards professional registration as CEng, IEng or EngTech - we can help.

All our events are free to attend with a range of formats, times and dates to suit everyone. You do not have to be a member to attend. Please do share this information with your colleagues.

‌Preparing for Armed Forces PRI for IEng or CEng

Tuesday 4 July - 12-1pm (On MS Teams)
Guidance for armed forces personnel on preparing for IEng and CEng interview from one of our experienced military interviewers. More information on the event here.

Session outcomes: By the end of this session you will know how to prepare effectively for the professional review interview and what to expect.

‌Become a Fellow

Fellow is the highest form of membership within an engineering institution. It confirms an individual’s influence, impact and support for other engineers and technicians as well as the wider community.

To become a Fellow you are expected to demonstrate certain professional qualities – categorised as Essential, Desirable and Optional. You can apply either through the Standard route, or if you are at the rank of Lt Col, Wg Cdr or Cdr, you can apply through the armed forces route.

CPOAET Jamie Partington RN IEng FIMechE, spoke recently about his route to Fellowship: “The opportunity to apply for Fellow is open to anyone. Look carefully at the criteria and very often the evidence is already there in your career, it’s a question of putting together your application.”

‌Career Learning Assessment (CLA)

‌Achieving IEng or CEng without a degree
Find out more about the routes to IEng or CEng without formal engineering qualifications at bachelors or Masters degree level.
